Initial Reactions From Various Sources
Feb 26-27, 1872 A.L.L.
Legena
(M. O'Flanagan reporting) - The government of Legena (formerly and briefly Laguna) would temporarily establish just a consular office with Tri-Lar while the Cabinet debated to what extent it wanted to carry on relations with the emerging nation. The cabinet is comprised of two parties; the Golden Sunshine Party (covered by M. O'Flanagan) and the Scientific Policy Party (covered by F. Flarigan). The Golden Sunshine Party would be very upset about Tri-Lar's extermination of the Pathogens. And Legena now has a substantial history of close relations with the Emerald Star. Some Golden Sunshine Party leaders would argue that Tri-Lar should be carefully quarantined, if not exterminated themselves.
The opposition One Mighty Nation Party (OMNP) also values Legena's relationship with the Emerald Star. But they would argue that Legena must not be too quick to misunderstand and misjudge the actions of races of peoples who have just stumbled upon the rest of them. The unfortunate war on the Pathogens may have been a simple, too-quick reaction prompted out of surprise and fear. Perhaps Legena should give the Tri-Lar another chance while treating them fairly as equals, the OMNP would argue. Not make the Tri-Lar an enemy until they have proven themselves to be one.
None of the Legena parties would want to have anything to do with slavery. The Golden Sunshine Party would be offended by the suggestion. The OMNP you would suggest the government set up a fund and a process for collecting contributions from the public in order to purchase slaves from time to time with an eye toward reuniting families, freeing the slaves, and resettling them in Legena's own colonies.
(F. Flarigan reporting) - Tom Swift of the Scientific Policy Party would fall in with the Golden Sunshine party on establishing minimal relations with the Tri-Lar and favor a policy of 'careful and quiet containment'.
"The Tri-Lar seem to be both xenophobic and ruthless. A race that has those characteristics will probably try to repeat this atrocity. We must prepare ourselves to both resist an attempt on Legena and to assist any victim targeted by the Tri-Lar. On the other hand the atrocity is already accomplished and can't be reversed."
Travis McGee of the Constant Change Party would break with his allies the OMNP and call for immediate war preparations.
"It goes beyond the crime. I am not alone in this nation in fearing such a warlike and hateful people. Let's get them before they get us." He would hold up some pictures of purported pictures of Pathogen women and children being tortured (later it would be revealed they were 'artists conceptions').
"These cruel creatures inflicted pain and death on innocents. ARE WE NEXT!"
Both of the two smaller parties would reject slaves.
"An archaic and inefficient economic technigue aside from being inhumane" Swift would observe with disdain.
"NO! NO! " would yell McGee. "I ask again ARE WE NEXT!"
The Black Forest
(M. O'Flanagan reporting) - The Black Forest would likely be far more receptive to the Tri-Lar at this point. The Queen would want to consult with her husband, Foreign Minister, Warlords, and other high nobles. The Black Forest would also have no problems with trading in slaves.
(F. Flarigan reporting) - The Warmaster 'The Bear'. "While we are at war and don't need any more enemies I am worried about the Tri-Lar." (The Bear's possessions are probably the nearest to the Tri-Lar.)
The Foreign Minister, Robert the Lesser Brute, would urge 'close consultation with our allies- especially the Kif- before taking any action. He would note that the Kif border the Tri-Lar and remind everyone how critical they are to the Black Forest's diplomatic and military position.
His father, The Brute, would echo his sons position and observe. "The War with the Republic is our first concern but the Kif are our most important ally."
The Brute's son, the infamous Greyeye, couldn't be reached for comment. The assumption is he is out of the country.
The Queen's husband, The Spider, would observe. "We don't need any more enemies".
In the central system (Bradywood) the Viceroy Lawrence Rayban "The Arrow" would declare that as sentient creatures the Pathogens had souls and so the Tri-Lar had committed 'unforgivable sins'. The Viceroy would urge 'consultation with Legena and the Emerald star on the matter'.
Many other nobles in Bradywood would agree with this argument.
The Pope would take up this line and add that slavery had always been forbidden by the church to any of its members. He would send a letter (requiring) agree(ment) with The Pope on the matter to all the bishops of the church asking for advice on how the church might best handle this.
All of (the major Bradywood) characters would fall into line on the slavery issue saying they would not 'own' slaves or allow their subject to do so. Most however wouldn't much care if non-believers outside the Black Forest did so.
Emerald Star
(F. Flarigan reporting) - Prominent Emerald Star politicians are very worried about the entry of the Tri-lar aka "the Killer -Ts" into the North, especially after killing off the Pathogens. More to come when their policies become known. -- An Emerald Star Spokesman
Mordock, Kingdom of the Northmen, and Flesh
(M. O'Flanagan reporting) - The Queen of Mordock and Kazar, King of the Northmen, would both send envoys to establish relations with the Tri-Lar. The envoys would be inquiring as to whether or not the Tri-Lar might be available to assist the group known as The Six in their war against the Black Forest.
In Flesh the number two man in power, Colonel Ethelred Smith, would also want to send a secret envoy to the Tri-Lar. But the number one man in power is the country's President, General Dooglas MacArthur.
MacArthur would have qualms about the Tri-Lar. He is not sure they can be trusted. He is also concerned that the Tri-Lar would not be popular among the population of Flesh, most of whom are descendents from Legena. So he would tell Smith not to send anyone, officially or unofficially, until he (MacArthur) has an opportunity to discuss the matter with all of the other leaders of The Six.
But Smith would disobey MacArthur and secretly send an agent along to accompany the official envoy of the Northmen. That agent would speak to the Tri-Lar on Smith's behalf.
